A novel job for Ben

Another chapter will be written about the historic Ashes Test match at the Emirates Durham ICG.
One man in the crowd is taking particular note as play progresses on the pitch.
Benjamin Markovits, a 39-year-old novelist from Texas, now living in London, has been appointed 'writer in residence' for the Durham Test - an unusual position sponsored by the organisation 'New Writing North'.
At 6'6" tall, Ben literally stands out in the crowd. Unsurprisingly he's a former basketball player who represented Oxford University before playing competitively in Germany. One of his novels called 'Playing Days' has a basketball theme.
He will write a two to five thousand word essay about his Durham experience to be published for the London Review of Books and is soaking up the Test atmosphere to shape his piece.
He said: "I'm currently thinking about the flowering of British sport and if there is an explanation for the recent successes in tennis, rugby, golf, cricket and the Olympics - or if it is just a coincidence.
"It's my first visit to the cricket ground and I think it is a great place, a great day and great sport - there's even a castle, trees and a hog roast - what more do you need!"
