Washington Cricket Club's Ashley Thorpe feels that the Ashes Test in Durham will leave a lasting legacy in the region.
The former Durham batsman believes that the first ever five-day match played between England and Australia will bring a "buzz" to the game not seen since the 2005 series when the Three Lions regained the urn.
Thorpe said: "I definitely feel there will be a legacy, I think the community get
involved the make the Test match a success.
"It's having an impact across
the north east, everyone is talking about the game. The 2005 series
put cricket on the map but this has given it a boost again.
"We've
got a really good youth system here, we've got a surplus of kids but
again this series will probably cause an increase in that.
"Cricket in
general there will be as well because of that buzz, because all young
kids want to play in an Ashes series. This is where it all starts, you
watch and you learn."
