Lyon delighted with Australia's efforts on day one

Australia spinner Nathan Lyon was pleased with his and his teammates efforts on the first day of the 4th Investec Ashes Test at the Emirates Durham International Cricket Round.

The Baggy Greens reduced England to 238-9 after losing the toss and Lyon starred with the ball taking four wickets.

Lyon said: "You could say it was a great personal effort. My theory is to come around the wicket and build pressure. You need to keep everyone in the game around the bat, with thew slip, bat pad and lbw. It's pretty simple there's not much in the pitch.

"I was pretty happy with how we bowled as a unit. We bowled well, we built pressure, we were pretty happy with the way things worked out there and end the way we did. Bowling in partnerships and I was lucky enough to take the rewards."

Lyon enjoyed a fierce battle with Kevin Pietersen, who took the attack to the bowler, before he got him caught behind by Brad Haddin for 26 sparking and England collapse.

He added: "Those are the challenges I love, someone taking the game to you. That's why we play the game, there's doubt that he is one of the best batsmen in the world. I was lucky enough to come out on top but cricket is a funny game so I won't say too much."
